Almost 90 percent of the energy used to wash clothes is used to heat the water, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. (If you have a load with tough stains, warmer water is better)

Q: What is the difference between the liquid and the paste?

A: The liquid and paste are both full strength. The liquid is best used for steam clean machines or for mixing in a hurry. The paste is better used for set in stains or stains that require more attention. To make full strength liquid from the paste, you will need to melt the paste in the microwave or stovetop without adding water.
